Obituary for Kathleen Lawton (Johnson)

Kathleen Lawton (Johnson)
Kathleen M. “Katie” (Johnson) Lawton, 64, of Shrewsbury, a retired UMass Memorial Nurse of 39 years passed away peacefully surrounded by her village on Friday November 9, 2018 at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester, where she was lovingly pampered during her last few months.

Katie was born in Worcester and raised in Shrewsbury, the daughter of Malcolm and Lourdes (Hanlon) Johnson. She graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1972 and continued on to Memorial School of Nursing, completing her degree in 1975. Kate later went on to earn a BSN from Boston College.

Katie’s village starts with her children; Juliette Lawton of Worcester, Jennavieve Lawton of Worcester, Jonathan Lawton of Boylston, and a step-son Jamey Lawton of New Hampshire; her brother William Johnson and his wife Deborah of China, ME; nieces and nephews, Eric Johnson, Jillian (Johnson) Tripp, and Jarrad Johnson all of Maine, Mallory (Johnson) Gibbons of Shrewsbury, Erin Johnson of Worcester, and Sean Lawlor of Shrewsbury. She also leaves behind a very devoted cousin, Concetta Young. She was predeceased her brother Paul “Booga” Johnson of Shrewsbury.

It is still up for debate which Katie loved more; her kids, or Cape Cod. When Katie wasn’t tending to others, you could find her scouting out the best yard sales in Harwich, or soaking up the sun on the beach. She loved to end her days with a cold gin and tonic in one hand and a blizzard from Dairy Queen in the other. She was a woman who truly mastered the art of balance in such a short amount of time here on Earth.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 14 at 10:00 AM in St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
