Obituary for Michael Kowalczyk

Michael “Mike” Kowalczyk, 31, of Millbury, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at UMASS Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

He leaves his loving parents, Maryann Kozlowski and her husband William “Billy” Kozlowski, of Millbury; his father, Brian R. Kowalczyk and his wife Rose of Oxford; his fiancée, Jessica M. Chretien, and their daughter, Alyssa M. Kowalczyk, both of Millbury and Jessica's son Colt; his paternal grandmother, Nancy B. Kowalczyk, of Shrewsbury; his siblings, Katie M. Kowalczyk, of Auburn, Alexander R. Kowalczyk, of Worcester, Tyler R. Kowalczyk, of Leicester, and Joseph R. Kozlowski, of Millbury; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins, including his special AUNTYYYYY, Leah Kozlowski. Mike is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Richard and Virginia (Adamiak) Wright, and his paternal grandfather, Robert M. Kowalczyk.

Born, raised, and educated in Worcester, Mike graduated from Saint Mary’s School and attended North High School. Most recently, he worked as a cook at Bushel N’ Peck Restaurant in Grafton for the last five years before he became ill.

As a car enthusiast, he loved his red Honda Prelude, and was a proud member of RMS Racing. He loved to fish wether it be at a local lake or deep sea. Loving the beach, especially Hampton, since being a child came with the most incredible appetite for seafood especially his famous crawfish boils. You really had to see it to believe it.

Mike was proud of his upcoming 4-year anniversary in his recovery from drugs. He fought every day to stay sober for his family, his friends, and himself. I know Mike would want all of his close friends fighting everyday to continue to stay strong and not let his tragic passing be a trigger but, a reminder, that if he could do it so can you and as his family, we give you our love and support.

Finally, more than anything, Mike loved spending time with his friends and family. He had the best laugh in the world and the most amazing sense of humor. He also had the biggest heart of anyone you could meet. He loved deep and will be so incredibly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a college fund for his daughter Alyssa Kowalczyk at Shrewsbury Credit Union.

A prayer service will be held privately for Mike’s family, and burial will be held at a later date. The Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with arrangements.
