I was born in 62. Dr. Donovan was my first Doctor. His first tonic for cure was always his genuine warmth and smile. This alone seemed to make whatever ailments subside. On one visit, Doctor Donovan informed my mother that he was going to visit Ireland. I might have been five or six. I interupted them and told him"You know, your not going to be able to kiss the Blarney Stone." He looked at me and asked, Why not Glenn?" "Well," I replied matter of factly, "Your too fat"
My mother screached in horror and began angrily scolding and repremanding me, demanding that I apologize. When I looked at Dr Donovan to obey and escape my mothers wrath, Dr Donovan, with tears rolling down his cheeks was howling with laughter. He tussled my hair and continued laughing to the end of our visit. Mom, however did not quite see the humor in it.
Somehow, to me, this memory tells the story of this wonderful man who was also a great Doctor, and by all means, meant to be.
Yes Doctor Donovan, you made us all feel better, just by having to have known you. Your still number one.
